Start Player announced
Start Player: A Kinda Collectible Card Game was announced today by Bezier Games (read the press release here). Start Player solves the problem gamers have faced since the advent of boardgaming: who goes first? While a scant few boardgames have built-in methods for determining the start player that is relevant to the game, Start Player quickly and definitively determines the Start Player for any game, even those with variable turn order.

It couldn't be easier to play either. Just flip a Start Player card and you'll instantly know who goes first in your next game. Start Player cards have unique categories based on physical, visual, mental and historical attributes, such as "the tallest player is the Start Player," or "the player who owns the most boardgames is the Start Player" or even "the player who speaks the most languages is the Start Player." And each card has a unique Board 2 Pieces cartoon on it featuring characters from the ongoing comic strip (see the latest comics at BoardgameNews). Check out pictures of the cards here.

Start Player is kinda collectible because while a Starter Deck contains dozens of cards to play with, you can also buy Booster Packs to increase the variability of the cards and build your own custom deck with the attributes you find most interesting. Common cards tend to be more random in determining the outcome, while uncommon and rare cards are more predictable. The Starter Deck contains a random mix of commons, uncommons and at least one rare card, as well as a blank card for making your own card, game rules, tournament rules, and other info.

Number of players: 2-infinity
Game length: less than 10 seconds
Difficulty: Ridiculously easy

Start Player will be released at Essen 2006, on October 19th. The print run is limited, but you can preorder Starter Decks, Booster Packs, and Booster Pack 10 Packs now! In addition, there are two collectors editions available for preorder: The Essen Limited Edition, which features 2 unique rare cards, one of which is only available in this edition, can be pre-ordered for pickup at the Essen show. The I'm Not Going to Essen Limited Edition, which features 2 unique rare cards, one of which is only available for pre-orders via shipping. Both Limited Editions feature 1 Starter Deck and 2 Booster Packs and will only be available via preorders until October 13th, 2006.
